Sailing from south Thailand to Cambodia means crossing the Gulf of Thailand and is a 8 to 10 day sailing adventure from Ko Samui to Sihanoukville and back to Ko Samui. During this passage you will collect as much as 600 NM.

The offshore sailing experience from Thailand to Cambodia and back is only possible in the month of October and November when in the Gulf of Thailand region the transition from the south west to the north east monsoon is taking place. This course combination will take you through the whole Ocean Hiker sailing course in 5 days by attending every day 5 hour sailing sessions of the coast of Koh Tao. After completing the 5 days we will embark on a 3 day cruise to the Angthong marine park. On the first day the target is to sail from Koh Tao to Koh Wua Talap, the only inhabited island and the home of the marine park rangers. This passage is 35 nautical from Koh Tao. During this cruise you have the chance to apply your freshly gained knowledge. On Koh Wua Talap tents will be ready prepared for.

On the second day exploration of the marine park is on the agenda. The viewpoint on Koh Wua Talap, the Bua Boke Cave, the inner lake on Koh Mae Koh, and the secret cave on Koh Ngam.

On the third day we set sails again to sail back to Koh Tao where we will arrive in the late afternoon.

This sailing course Thailand combination will take you through the whole Ocean Hiker sailing course Thailand in 5 days. You will stay on board the Sailing Yacht as you would when doing a real passage. The idea of this combination is to get the true off shore feeling by being five full days aboard and cruising to the surrounding islands here in the Gulf of Thailand which are between 25 and 40 nautical miles distance away from each other. Where we are heading will be depend on the weather. We will apply as well shift rules as it is necessary when the yacht is sailing 24 hours a day. All responsibilities a board from sailing to cooking and cleaning will be shared between the crew/students and the skipper/instructor. At least on one of the four nights we will keep sailing for at least 4 hours as the Competent Crew standards require.

This passage making will give you the most experience and deep inside of ocean sailing and about 150 or more nautical miles to log in your new Sailing Logbook.

5 day 4 night offshore live aboard Sailing Course Thailand Private

This option will make this course a private course. No other students will be aboard the Sailing Yacht. The service of Skipper/Sailing Instructor and Crew is exclusively for you. You pay as a premium 50% of the offshore course price. The Sailing course Thailand itself is as in any other option.

What to bring?

Space is always limited aboard sailing yachts so if you are traveling with a lot of luggage we will ask you to pack only the basics you will need within these four days. You can store the rest in our headquarters on Koh Tao until we are back.

Needed is swimming shorts or bikini , a raincoat if possible, a towel, one warm jumper and your study materials.

In our 5 day ocean hiker sailing course Koh Tao we will have daily practical sailing sessions aboard the sailing yacht Yun Khan just off the island Koh Tao. You will have to plan to be around for five to six hours a day. Academics will be incorporated in this session. The departure times can vary depending on weather conditions and training goals.

The Ocean Hiker sailing course is an extended version of a Competent Crew Course. Our approach of teaching is based on our very own blue water sailing experience. The additional collection of skills are of importance to any crew on an ocean passage. We implemented the extra skills into the standard competent crew syllabus of the RYA or ISA. We are not only mentioning during the Ocean Hiker/ Competent Crew Course that there are marine VHF radios aboard any ocean going sailing yacht, we introduce at this level the basics to work it and we are sure that any captain or skipper will be thankful in a precarious situation that an marine radio unlicensed competent crew member was able to set up a correct pan pan pan call. This does not mean that we depreciate any available licenses within the maritime world but we know that knowledge and skills are essential for survival. After extensive research we found that most sailing associations are not teaching at any sailing course level  the skill of splicing ropes? Well, when we go for a Charter Cruise here in the Gulf of Thailand we definitely prefer a crew with a broad maritime knowledge and a bag full of skills.
